Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Alan F. Witter
I am Doctor Alan Witter, aka. “Doc.” I am a graduate of Cornell’s Veterinary School, as was my father before me and my brother after me. My uncle and one cousin are also veterinarians, so veterinary medicine seems to have run in the family. My Jack Russell, Izzy, and I come to work together every day. Izzy’s buddy, Iggy the cat, stays at home with the horses and waits for our return. Stop by and see why I am so proud of my staff and facility.
Dr. Dolores Newman
Hi! I’m Dolores Newman, one of the veterinarians here at Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital. I’m originally from New Jersey but have lived in Virginia for 24 years. I graduated from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. King George, Virginia is my home along with my wonderful family: husband, Rod, 4 children, 2 dogs, 4 cats and 4 guinea pigs. Life is never boring at our house. Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital is a great place to spend my days with a superb staff and fantastic clients. In my spare time I do enjoy spending time with my active family, reading, gardening and cooking.
Dr. Elizabeth Collins
Hello, I am Elizabeth Collins. I grew up in northwestern Pennsylvania, in a rural community. I graduated from Purdue University with a DVM degree in 1991. I recently moved to King George with my husband James and my two children. We have 2 cats, “Gulliver”- an old gentleman, and “D’Argo”- a young rascal. I enjoy working here at Confederate Ridge, the staff is helpful and fun, and our clients and their pets make life interesting. When not at work I enjoy reading, painting, hiking and working on my house and gardens.
Licensed Veterinary Technicians
Lori A. Grant LVT
Hi, I’m Lori Grant I have worked at Confederate Ridge An. Hosp. for many years it’s a great place to work; great doctors and good medicine. I received my license in 1992. As Head Technician and Hospital Manager I am always willing to hear how we can improve our services for you. I have empty nest syndrome with 3 grown children so my attentions are focused on husband Tim and Chrissy (Golden Retriever) Andrew (domestic cat) and Froot Loops (14 yr old Cockatiel). We live near a lake and spend time boating in the summers. You may see Chrissy out on the Jet Ski, since riding it seems to always be on her mind. Hope to see you soon.

Kathy Rau L.V.T.
My name is Kathy Rau. I have been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 1998. I am originally from Northern Virginia and moved to Fredericksburg about 6 years ago. While in Northern VA., I worked as a hospital manager and surgical Technician. Since moving to Fredericksburg my family has grown and I now work at CRAH on Saturdays. I’ve been here for about 4 years. I chose CRAH because of their compassion for the staff, patients and owners. During the week I keep busy with my husband and 3 children. We have 2 dogs (Riley and Murphy) and 2 cats which we adopted from CRAH (Belle and Yoda). When I’m not working I am busy as a foster parent for RAFFT and helping out the community as a cheer mom and a brownie mom. I look forward to meeting the furry family member in your life.

Groomers
Hello, we’re Yvonne and Becca, your pets’ groomers.
We do everything to make sure that your pet has the opportunity to enjoy his/her “day at the spa”, paying close attention to comfort, hygiene, and appearance. While they’re here, they’ll have their own private crate, (the area is heated in winter, air conditioned in the summer), a “blankie” (for both comfort and security), and fresh water. Cats will have a litter pan, and dogs will have at least two “potty-breaks”. Becca will greet them and start them off: Ears are flushed and swabbed; anals are checked and expressed if needed. Then comes the best part, a Jacuzzi-like bath using skin/coat-specific shampoo and conditioners! This helps to relax them, stimulate the hair follicles, and to make certain that they’re squeaky-clean from the skin out. Fluff drying, without using heat, is next. Then it’s my turn! I do the finish-work, paying close attention to details, whether it’s a full grooming or a clip (a full grooming and a hair cut/style). I also keep an eye out for any potential skin/tooth/health problems. After all, I am asking your pal to allow me to go over every square inch of their body with a fine-tooth comb (sometimes literally!), stand on three legs (if possible) for footwork, as well as learn “turn around” “stand”, and “stay”. Your pet will be returned to you with a Groomers’ Report Card and looking his/her best!
